Who we are, why this site exists, and how to reach us.
The Florida Press is an independent online news publication covering Florida. We report on the stories that shape daily life in the state: politics from Tallahassee to Washington, the courts and the regulators, the economy and the Florida real estate market, Florida pro and college sports, hurricane and severe-weather coverage, education, health, the environment, and national news with a Florida lens.
We launched in 2026 with one goal: to give Floridians, from the Panhandle to the Keys, a single readable daily feed of statewide and regional news drawn from primary sources. We cover every major Florida media market — South Florida, Tampa Bay, Central Florida, Northeast Florida, Southwest Florida, and the Panhandle — not just the metros that dominate state-press coverage.
We're an internet-first publication built around three editorial habits:
Our work is governed by a written set of editorial standards that cover sourcing, verification, attribution, imagery licensing, corrections, and conflicts of interest. Every article goes through a human editorial review before publication. Read more about how the newsroom operates on our newsroom page.
We publish under a single editorial byline — “The Florida Press Newsroom” — rather than a roster of named bylines, because the editorial process is shared across the desk. The editor responsible for a given story is reachable through the corrections address below.
The Florida Press is independently owned and operated. We are not affiliated with any political party, candidate, government agency, advertiser, or other news organisation. The site is supported by display advertising and reader contributions; advertising relationships are disclosed on our advertising page, and any sponsored content is clearly labelled and kept separate from editorial.
We do not take editorial direction from advertisers. We do not run native content or paid placements inside news stories. Editorial decisions — including the decision to cover or not cover a particular story — are made entirely by the editorial desk.
