The Florida Press Newsroom
Editorial desk
The Florida Press is an independent online news publication covering Florida politics, sports, weather, business and real estate, crime and courts, education, health, and national news with a Florida lens. Every story on the site is published under our shared newsroom byline.
We work as a small editorial team rather than a roster of named staff journalists. Stories are commissioned, edited, fact-checked, and signed off by a human editor before publication. Where useful, we use modern research and writing tools to keep pace with breaking Florida stories — but no article leaves the editorial desk without human review against the sourcing, verification, and attribution rules in our editorial standards.
Our priority is primary sources: state agency announcements, court rulings, the National Hurricane Center, the Florida Division of Emergency Management, the Florida Legislature, federal releases, sheriff's offices, transcripts, and on-the-record statements. When we report on coverage from other outlets, we link to the original reporting and credit the journalists who did the work.
We publish our corrections on a public page with date and a brief summary of what changed. Spotted an error? Every article page has a “Report an error” button, or you can write to us directly at the addresses below.
