Trevor Lawrence threw three touchdown passes, Rayuan Lane III returned an interception 92 yards for a score and the Jacksonville Jaguars routed the Indianapolis Colts 42-7 in the rain Sunday at EverBank Stadium. The win lifted Jacksonville to 5-2 and gave it a three-game lead in the AFC South, a position the franchise has not held since 1999, according to The Associated Press.

The Jaguars, coming off their bye week and wearing the franchise's new "Bold City" rivalry uniforms, led 28-0 at halftime and 42-7 after three quarters. It was their 12th straight home win over Indianapolis and their seventh consecutive regular-season home win overall.

A fast start and a flood of big plays

Lawrence opened the game with a 12-play, 98-yard touchdown drive that began at the Jacksonville 2 and ended with a 12-yard pass to Brian Thomas Jr., who was alone in the back of the end zone. The touchdown came for a receiver who had recently been benched, the AP noted.

After Jonathan Taylor fumbled on a botched trick play near midfield in the second quarter, Lawrence needed four plays to hit rookie tight end Nate Boerkircher for a 31-yard touchdown and a 14-0 lead. Bhayshul Tuten made it 21-0 with 1:51 left in the half, breaking three tackles on a 39-yard run.

The Colts then got a chance to cut into the lead when Lawrence was strip-sacked and Indianapolis recovered at the Jacksonville 31. Instead, Lane stepped in front of a Daniel Jones pass intended for Tyler Warren at the 8 and returned it 92 yards for a touchdown with 10 seconds left in the half.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. ran 28 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter for a 35-0 lead. After Jones found Josh Downs for a 6-yard score, Lawrence answered with a 25-yard screen pass to Tuten as the third quarter expired.

The scoring went as follows.

Lawrence and Tuten lead the offense

Lawrence completed 10 of 14 passes for 210 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions and a passer rating of 153.3, before watching the fourth quarter from the sideline. Quinn Ewers finished the game.

Tuten ran 16 times for 104 yards and caught two passes for 55 yards, both career highs. Jacksonville ran for 183 yards on 33 carries and averaged 6.9 yards per play.

"We knew it was going to rain," Tuten said, according to the AP. "We knew we were going to run the ball, and we just went out and imposed our will."

Lawrence brushed off talk of the division race. "Good teams don't think about the division lead they have in November," he said.

Defense smothers a rebuilding Colts team

The Jaguars held Indianapolis to 243 yards, intercepted Jones twice and sacked Colts quarterbacks four times. Linebacker Foyesade Oluokun had nine tackles and a sack, and Travon Walker added a sack. Backup linebacker Branson Combs had the second interception early in the fourth quarter.

Taylor, who the AP reported the Colts are willing to trade, was held to 23 yards on eight carries and caught four passes for 24 yards. Keenan Allen led Indianapolis with seven catches for 67 yards, and tight end Tyler Warren was targeted 10 times but finished with four catches for 18 yards. He is still the last player to run for 100 yards against the Jaguars, doing it in the 2024 regular-season finale.

"It's embarrassing. It's a butt whooping," Taylor said, according to the AP.

Jones completed 19 of 28 passes for 144 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions and was replaced in the fourth quarter by Anthony Richardson. The Colts (2-6) have lost four straight and 13 of 15 dating to last season. Five days before the game they traded defensive tackle DeForest Buckner and guard Quenton Nelson to start a rebuild, and they fired general manager Chris Ballard last month.

A dominant run at home

Indianapolis last won in Jacksonville in 2014; the 12-game skid includes a 2016 game in London. The Jaguars have outscored opponents 271-75 during their seven-game regular-season home winning streak, according to the AP.

The Jaguars had spent much of October away from Northeast Florida, playing two of their designated home games in London, against Philadelphia at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Houston at Wembley Stadium.

Coen said his players sensed "a little blood in the water" against a struggling opponent and wanted to jump on the Colts at home. "We haven't been home much," he said. "Wanted to be able to put on a show for our home fan base and give the people some excitement."

Hamilton's injury and other concerns

The lopsided win came at a cost. Nose tackle DaVon Hamilton went down with what the AP described as a possible season-ending right knee injury in the second quarter, on the same play as Taylor's fumble. The 335-pound Hamilton anchors the middle of a run defense that has not allowed a 100-yard rusher since the 2024 finale. Teammates rushed to his side, he was carted to the locker room and he was ruled out minutes later.

"Extremely, extremely difficult," Coen said. "There's not many better humans, better competitors, team guys."

Safety Eric Murray (left elbow), Walker (ribs) and right guard Ezra Cleveland (right ankle) were also hurt, and Combs left in the fourth quarter with a left arm injury. The Colts played without nickel cornerback Justin Walley.

What's next

The Jaguars have a short week before visiting the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, Nov. 5, at M&T Bank Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Eastern. The injury status of Murray, Walker and Cleveland will be the key item on the practice reports leading into that game. The Colts host the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday.
