Orlando City Edges Columbus Crew 3-2 on Iván Angulo's Late Winner and Maxime Crépeau's Record 12 Saves

Iván Angulo scored in the 89th minute, Antoine Griezmann had a goal and an assist, and goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau made a club-record 12 saves as Orlando City SC beat the Columbus Crew 3-2 on Saturday night, Oct. 10, at Inter&Co Stadium. The win kept the Lions in seventh place in the Eastern Conference, the last spot that avoids the playoff wild-card round, with six matches left.
Orlando won despite being outshot 27-20 and facing 15 shots on target, according to ESPN's match data. The club described Angulo's winner as coming against the run of play.
A goal in the first minute
Harvey Sarajian, making his first MLS start in his 10th appearance, put Orlando ahead inside the first minute. Angulo ran onto a through ball and cut it back to Griezmann, who found Sarajian in the middle for a right-footed finish into the lower right corner. The club timed the goal at 50 seconds and said it was the third-fastest in team history. It was Sarajian's second goal for Orlando, and he has now scored in consecutive home matches.
Sarajian said the pregame message had been about energy and starting fast after a run of slow starts, and that he wanted to lift the team after poor results, according to the club.
Columbus equalized in the seventh minute when Santiago Rodríguez slipped a pass to Taha Habroune, who beat Crépeau after the goalkeeper charged off his line. Griezmann restored the lead in the 16th minute, curling a left-footed free kick into the corner.
Columbus pushes, Crépeau holds
The Crew controlled long stretches after that, finishing with 52.6% of possession and 11 corner kicks to Orlando's two. Brais Méndez tied it 2-2 in the 53rd minute, pulling Crépeau off his line and finishing from the left side of the 6-yard box after a through ball from Habroune, who finished with a goal and an assist.
Crépeau kept Orlando level the rest of the way. His 12 saves broke the club's single-match record of 11, set by Mason Stajduhar and matched by Crépeau in the season opener against Red Bull New York, according to Orlando City.
The winner came on a counterattack in the 89th minute. Angulo carried the ball forward, played it wide to Martín Ojeda and kept running; Ojeda returned it first-time and Angulo finished with his left foot from the center of the box. Patrick Schulte made five saves for Columbus. Perelman had brought on Bernardo Rhein at halftime and later added Zakaria Taifi, Luis Otávio, Daryl Dike and Justin Ellis, while Columbus introduced Gonzalo Tapia, André Gomes, Brooks Lennon, Sékou Bangoura and Andrés Herrera in search of a winner of its own.
Angulo and Griezmann keep producing
Angulo has now scored in five consecutive MLS matches, tying the club's single-season record for a scoring streak, which Griezmann set earlier this season. The club also credited Angulo with an assist on Sarajian's goal, giving him 12 assists across all competitions in 2026 and 43 for his Orlando career.
Griezmann, the 35-year-old 2018 World Cup winner who joined Orlando in the summer, has nine goals and five assists in 12 MLS appearances and has recorded a goal or assist in eight straight league matches. The free kick was his 10th goal for the club across all competitions.
Ojeda's assist was his third of 2026 and the 45th of his Orlando career, leaving the designated player two shy of Mauricio Pereyra's club record across all competitions.
Interim coach shakes up the lineup
Interim head coach Martín Perelman made five changes from the team's previous match, a 4-2 loss at Philadelphia on Sept. 26, starting David Brekalo, Wilder Cartagena, Vinícius Nogueira, Marco Pašalić and Sarajian. It was Nogueira's first Orlando City start. Defender Griffin Dorsey (back), midfielder Braian Ojeda (foot) and forward Tyrese Spicer (foot) were out injured.
Perelman, a former Orlando City B coach who joined the first-team staff in 2024, has been in charge since March 11, when the club and Óscar Pareja agreed to part ways after a winless start that included a 5-0 loss at New York City FC.
Orlando collected four yellow cards, to Nogueira, Robin Jansson, Brekalo and Pašalić. Habroune and Méndez were booked for Columbus.
Back on track after the break
The win ended a two-match skid. Before the international break, Orlando lost 4-2 at New England on Sept. 19 and 4-2 at Philadelphia a week later, after a strong late-summer stretch that included wins over San Diego, Atlanta and Toronto.
Columbus (8 wins, 5 draws, 15 losses, 29 points) is 13th in the East, one point behind 12th-place D.C. United and seven points back of ninth place. The Crew beat Inter Miami 2-1 on Sept. 27. Orlando and Columbus drew 1-1 in their first meeting this season, on April 12 at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field.
The playoff picture
Orlando City (11 wins, 4 draws, 13 losses) has 37 points from 28 matches. The top seven teams in each conference go directly to a best-of-three first-round series, while the eighth and ninth seeds meet in a single wild-card match on Nov. 18, according to MLS. The cutoff race below Orlando is tight, according to ESPN's standings:
| Place | Team | Played | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | Philadelphia Union | 28 | 42 |
| 7 | Orlando City SC | 28 | 37 |
| 8 | Red Bull New York | 28 | 36 |
| 9 | FC Cincinnati | 27 | 36 |
| 10 | New York City FC | 28 | 33 |
| 11 | Toronto FC | 28 | 32 |
Orlando sits one point clear of eighth and four points above the line, but Cincinnati has a game in hand. Orlando's goal difference of minus-15 is the worst among the East's top nine, which could matter in a tiebreaker.
