Trump Set to Speak at Kennedy Space Center During NASA's MAX POWER Expo in His First Trip Since the Midterms

President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak Friday evening at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, where he is expected to address the UP.Summit technology showcase as NASA opens its first "MAX POWER" aerospace technology expo and air show on the Space Coast. The appearance is his first trip since Tuesday's midterm elections, in which Democrats won control of Congress and flipped governorships across the country while Florida Republicans held the governor's office.
WKMG News 6 reported that the president was set to speak at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. UP.Summit founder Cyrus Sigari told attendees on Thursday that organizers expected the president at about that time, according to Florida Today. NBC News, citing the White House schedule, put the remarks at around 6 p.m. Eastern. As of Friday morning, few details about the program had been released, and neither the White House nor NASA had said what the president planned to discuss.
Where and when the president is expected
The speech is set for the Reusable Launch Vehicle Hangar, a 50,000-square-foot building beside Kennedy's former shuttle landing strip that Space Florida manages and that organizers converted into a convention-style venue for the summit, Florida Today reported. Visitors arriving at the hangar pass a SpaceX Falcon 9 first-stage booster and the upper stage of a Blue Origin New Glenn rocket.
Friday is the summit's invitation-only VIP day, drawing hundreds of investors, executives from transportation and aerospace companies, and government officials from around the world. Thursday's program featured speakers from Blue Origin, SpaceX, Stoke Space, Cowboy Space, CesiumAstro and Astranis. Sigari warned guests that security on Friday would be extremely tight, telling them it was "going to be through the roof," according to Florida Today.
A Federal Aviation Administration flight-restriction notice suggested the president would fly into Cape Canaveral on Friday and then continue to Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach for the weekend.
What MAX POWER is
NASA announced MAX POWER on Aug. 14, billing it as America's newest aerospace expo and air show and tying it to the nation's 250th anniversary. The public portion runs Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8, on and around Kennedy Space Center, including the Apollo Saturn V facility, the Launch and Landing Facility leased by Space Florida, and the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said in the announcement that the agency was "opening Kennedy Space Center's historic Shuttle Landing Facility to the public."
According to NASA, the event is divided into multiple separately ticketed "parks" and experiences. The lineup includes:
- An air show with NASA aircraft, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and demonstrations by several Department of War branches, staged at the shuttle strip
- The UP.Summit technology expo, which opens to the public on Saturday and Sunday after Friday's private day
- Astronaut parades, exhibits and activities at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
- A guest speaker series with NASA experts and Apollo and Artemis astronauts
- Behind-the-gates bus tours to the Apollo Saturn V Center and the Vehicle Assembly Building
NASA's outside partners include Air Dot Show, Delaware North, Space Florida, Purpose Entertainment and UP.Summit. Admission to one park does not automatically include the others, and NASA directs ticket buyers to its MAX POWER page.
A visit shaped by the midterms
The trip comes three days after an election that went badly for Republicans nationally. The Associated Press reported that Democrats took control of Congress and flipped at least five governorships, including in Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Nevada and Iowa. NBC News described the president's Friday travel as his first outing after a crushing midterm defeat for his party.
Florida largely held for the GOP. Republican Byron Donalds defeated Democrat David Jolly for governor, with Donalds at 50.1 percent to Jolly's 48.7 percent in election-night returns reported by the News Service of Florida. The results were not uniform, however: Democrat Pia Dandiya won the open 22nd Congressional District, and in Miami-Dade County the 27th District race between Republican Rep. María Elvira Salazar and Democrat Eliott Rodriguez is headed to an automatic recount.
Friday's stop is the president's second in Central Florida in about a week. He rallied in Daytona Beach on Oct. 30 for Donalds and Sen. Ashley Moody in the final days of the campaign, Bay News 9 noted.
The space agenda the president has staked out
The White House has not previewed Friday's remarks, but the president has made space policy a recent theme. On Tuesday he signed a proclamation, which he called the American Declaration of Freedom in Space, saying outer space is open to exploration, development and use by American citizens as long as they follow U.S. and international law, Bay News 9 reported. In that proclamation he pointed to the Artemis II flight in April and the Artemis III flight planned for next year.
The president presented the Congressional Space Medal of Honor to the Artemis II crew on Aug. 28, according to Bay News 9.
What is happening at the Cape right now
The president will be speaking a few miles from hardware being prepared for NASA's next crewed lunar mission. Engineers finished stacking the twin solid rocket boosters for Artemis III inside the Vehicle Assembly Building's High Bay 3 on Sept. 30, NASA said in an Oct. 13 update, and the 212-foot core stage was then lifted into place between the boosters in late October. NASA plans to roll the partially assembled rocket, known as the short stack, to Launch Pad 39B in the coming months for a tanking test in which launch teams will practice loading propellant. The crew will also run a launch-day rehearsal and an emergency exit walkdown at the pad. The four-person Artemis III crew includes European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano.
On the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station side, United Launch Alliance is targeting Friday, Nov. 13, for the return to flight of its Vulcan rocket after a nine-month grounding that followed a solid rocket booster nozzle problem on the USSF-87 mission in February. ULA has said the flight will use an improved nozzle design, with more testing continuing in parallel, and reports in late October said final approval from the military launch range was still pending. The mission is reported to carry a batch of Amazon Leo internet satellites.
Why it matters for the Space Coast
Brevard County's economy increasingly runs on launch activity. The Space Coast set an all-time record of 109 launches in 2025, and the commander of the 45th Space Launch Delta said before this year began that the range was planning for 100 to 120 launches in 2026.
Local leaders are using MAX POWER to pitch something larger. Sigari announced Capeweek, a new annual aerospace and technology expo planned for March 27 to April 2, 2028, at the shuttle strip, with NASA, the State of Florida and Space Florida as partners, Florida Today reported. Organizers hope it will eventually draw more than 500,000 people a year and want it to rival Britain's Farnborough International Airshow, which drew 141,580 trade and public visitors in July.
U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos, whose district includes the Space Coast, said the event came together in about three months and called that pace remarkable. He said he hopes companies that come to see technologies such as airborne electric taxis will invest locally, telling Florida Today, "We want them to manufacture right here on the Space Coast."
What's next
News 6 planned to stream the president's appearance live. The UP.Summit expo and the Thunderbirds-led air show open to ticketed members of the public on Saturday and Sunday. Next up at the Cape is ULA's targeted Vulcan launch on Nov. 13, followed by Artemis III's rollout to Pad 39B for its tanking test in the months ahead.
